STELIOS KAROULIAS
Another special Sunday morning, with an interviewee we usually see behind the decks. Stelios Karoulias shared his hideout with us revealing part of his life we did not know yet.

We were at his office. The sun was trying to invade from the stores and the plants welcomed the spring. Stelios is working from morning till night, because in his life there are two interests, biochemistry and music. His everyday life is a vicious cycle, as he says “When I get bored with the one interest, I start working with the other!” He studied at the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the University of Thessaly. So, a few years ago, he was awarded as a Ph.D. in Biochemistry by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki on tissue engineering and bone regeneration. On the other hand, music has also stolen much of his heart. He plays piano since he was six years old. When he was a student, he used to play music in bars. His way as a dj started from his need for parties with music that he likes. And we approve his taste in music.
He is also communicative. He has worked as a radio producer. He likes communicating with people and he has been a part of our “magical feasts”, through his participation in a television advertising. Stelios has participated in a greek film production and more or less he is almost behind everywhere. In his spare time – if he does not play music – you will find him for dinner with friends or in leisure breaks. He has lived abroad for some time because of his science and music. He was fortunate enough to play music next to popular artists. His short-term plans will find him in New York to start his post-doctoral degree. His photoshooting by Dimitris Andritsos for The Hideout Project took place at the Biochemistry’s Laboratory of the Aristotle University, as much of Stelios’ daily life is hidden there, behind the experiment’s counter.
A day in the Laboratory closes by completing the lab book. So, as Stelios writes on the book and Dimitris closes the lights, I wonder if after all the current experiment succeeded!
